Footprints brings them together to dance and play in a new work based on their own identities and the shared identity that the music creates. Using exisiting music and song already in their repertoire, award winning Scots’ singer Emily Smith (BBC Young Traditional Musician of the Year, USA Songwriting Competition, Scots Singer of the Year) brings her earthy, Dumfriesshire vocals to a mix of old and new songs, while musician Jamie McClennan and band complete the musical programme with sets of both thoughtful and lively tunes. The dancers, from varying backgrounds of training, link styles ranging from classical to capoeira to demonstrate the versatility of the music and demonstrate how to have fun with tradition whilst maintaining artistic excellence. This mixing of past and present, music and dance has been applauded by critics for its ingenuity and artistic integrity, as well as for its fun and playfulness...
